Welcome to the Canadian Gemmological Association, Canada's professional organization for the practice of gemmology. Founded in 1958 it has set the standard for excellence in the practice of gemmology. The CGA is a non-profit, membership association and educational institute providing education in the field of gemmology and provides a forum for Canadian gemmologists to meet and share knowledge and experiences.

May 2012 - Monthly Meeting


When: Wednesday May 16, 2012 at 7:30 P.M.

Topic: Concepts of Gemstone Grading and Valuation

Speaker: Mr. Helmut Koenig, FCGmA

All members and students are encouraged to attend this informative presentation by Helmut Koenig.  Helmut is a long time member of the CGA and has served the CGA in many various roles.  He is currently one of our instructors and has also been a Board member. He is currently chief gemmologist and Director of Fine Jewellery for Ritchies Auctioneers and instructor of Coloured Gemstone Valuation and Grading workshops.

Join us for another informative evening with your gemmological colleagues and an excellent guest speaker. All gemmology students are welcome!

Thanks to all members and students who attended our recent standing room only April monthly meeting for the very informative presentation 'A Brief History of Candian Diamonds by Mr. Jon Phillips, Manager of Canadian Diamonds at Corona Jewellery.  Mr. Phillips brought in wonderful samples of rough diamond crystals for attendees to examine, examples of Kimberley Process Certificates and kindly donated a core sample from the Ekati diamond mine to the CGA teaching collection. Thank you Mr. Phillips for a very memorable meeting!

Looking forward to seeing you all again at our May monthly meeting!

 
Coloured Gemstone Grading and Valuation Workshop Dates 2012

New dates have been set for the next Coloured Gemstone Grading and Valuation workshop taught by Helmut Koenig. The next sessions will be held June 1 to 3, 2012. For further information regarding the course and registration, visit our Advanced Courses page. 

 
2012 Membership Renewal
A reminder to all members that your 2012 membership renewal is due before Monday January 30, 2012. 
Please mail or fax your membership renewal forms with payment to the CGA office to ensure that your membership does not lapse.  Membership forms were sent out with with notice of our Annual General Meeting.  Memberships can also be renewed in our Online Store (see top of page).

Note: In order to use your FCGmA credential you must be a current member (CGA Constitution and By-Laws; Article 11.2.2)

The first comprehensive index was produced in the year 2000, and covers content published between 1976 and 1999.
