Topic: Mountain River Beryl-Investigation of the Mountain River beryl (emerald variety) occurrence, Mackenzie Mountains, NT
                           MRB Hand specimen

Several discoveries of emerald and green beryl in the Yukon and Northwest Territories have prompted interest in the Western Cordillera as a new source of gem-quality beryl. The Mountain River beryl (MRB) showing in the Mackenzie Mountains, Northwest Territories, was discovered in 2007 during a regional mapping program by the NWT Geoscience Office. The showing occurs on a steep slope 160 km south-west of Norman Wells, NT, hosted within thinly bedded to thickly layered pyritic sandstone with minor dolostone units of the Neoproterozoic Twitya Formation. The beryl is found within quartz-carbonate-albite veins with minor disseminated pyrite and trace chalcopyrite, and occurs as non-gem quality milky to mint green hexagonal crystals 1 to 10 mm in diameter and up to 4 cm in length.

TopicSmartphone Video Marketing

To show entrepreneurs and small businesses owners how to market themselves online as experts in their field, using video that they can shoot with their smartphones.
Many entrepreneurs and small businesses owners are struggling to find ways to stand out in their competitive fields, so they can generate the income they need.  They’ve heard from social media gurus that they must start producing video content and posting it on social media websites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Many think it’ll cost too much, or they don’t have enough time, it’s too complicated, they don’t know what they would say or they have a fear of being on camera, and putting themselves out there.  It’s important for them to know that there’s a way to overcome these obstacles by producing marketing videos with their smartphones, and this seminar shows them how.

Come join us for this slightly different meeting topic but one that is no less relevant for our industry.

Where:
CGA Classroom, 55 Queen St East, Lower Concourse #105, Toronto
Speaker: Karen Fox

Opal can be spectacularly beautiful and often commands impressive market prices, yet is a surprisingly common geological material.

Join us for a look at the nature of opal and tag along on an expedition through the Australian outback to visit some of the most famous opal deposits in the world. We’ll go underground at Lightning Ridge, home of superb black opal; buy “Yowah Nuts” in Queensland; chase kangeroos and emus thru the boulder opal fields, and noodle for opal on the mullock heaps at Coober Pedy.  This experience vividly displays the hospitality (and individuality) of Australia’s miners and the beauty of her landscape and favourite  gemstone.
