Over the course of the nineteenth century, the world became a smaller place, with the industrial revolution in full swing, the world economy changing, and a growing middle class, we saw a greater part of society buying jewels, and increased availability of forms and styles from around the world becoming available. Travel and trade were easier than ever, and the mysteries of Eastern Europe and the many styles of Asian cultures were producing a noticeable impact on Western design, blending forms from around the world into jewels in Europe and North America. We will explore Victorian jewels from the perspective of the twenty-first Century.
