Welcome to the Donation section of the CGA. 

 

The CGA provides communication, education and research in gemmology through the tireless efforts of volunteers and the generosity of donors. We hope that you will support us in our efforts to keep gemmology at the forefront in Canada and around the world.  We welcome and appreciate donations of any size, whether they are recurring or a one-time gift.

 

Through your generous donation we will be able to:

  • Provide scholarships
  • Give awards for innovation, excellence and design
  • Create opportunities for gemmological research
  • Maintain our offering of educational resources and classrooms
  • And continue our outreach efforts

Cash donations over $25 CDN in value will receive a tax receipt.  Gifts-In-Kind donations over $100 CDN in value will receive a tax receipt, and donations made over $500 CDN will be recognized by the CGA by publishing your name and or company on the CGA website.

 

Here are the types of donations that would most benefit our association:

  • Cash/Cheques
  • Gemstones and mineral samples
  • Gemmology and jewellery equipment
  • Jewellery and Gemmology Textbooks
  • Gemstone packaging – such as unbranded display and specimen boxes etc.

 

Process For Cash Donations:

Donations over $25 CDN in value will receive a tax receipt

  • Print a donation form CGA Cash Donation Form and mail/fax/e-mail to:

  • Donations must be made before December 31st in order to receive a tax receipt for that given year

Process For In-Kind Donations:

Donations over $100 CDN in value will receive a tax receipt.

  • Please use this form for in-kind donations  CGA Gift In Kind Donation Form
  • Each item you are donating must have its own separate donation form.  You cannot put multiple donations on one form
  • We will not issue one receipt for multiple donations.   Each donation will receive its own tax receipt.

  • All in-kind donations over $1000 CDN must be accompanied by an appraisal conducted by an independent accredited appraiser
  • An independent accredited appraiser must be someone who is not a current member of the CGA nor connected to the donor.   Please contact the CGA office at 647-466-2436 for clarification
  • Your appraisal MUST say “Fair Market Value“
  • Your appraisal CANNOT say “For Insurance” or “Retail Replacement Value“
  • A donation receipt will be issued for the fair market value of the gift, based on the independent third-party evaluation of the gift
  • No donation receipts will be issued for shipping or packaging of items
  • Donations must be made before December 31st in order to receive a tax receipt for that given year

CGA Donor Levels:

  • Diamond Level – $10,000 and over
  • Ruby Level – $5,000 to $9,999
  • Emerald Level – $1,000 to $4,999
  • Sapphire Level $999 and below

All donor levels are in Canadian dollars
